Attention Manasquan Residents:
The Sea Lavender Garden Club is celebrating its 20th Anniversary. The first meeting of the club was held on October 19, 1993. June Cunningham, the club’s first president, credits the idea for forming the club to the success of the small pocket gardens planted at the inlet by the Manasquan Environmental Commission. June thought that other areas in town could also be improved and convened a group of interested residents to establish the club.
The first beautification project was a joint effort between the club members and the Manasquan Public Works Department. With the help of the Public Works Department, the Monmouth County Parks Department, the Manasquan Planning Board and the Borough Council, Sea Lavender Garden Club members planted 17 new trees in May of 1994. Presently, Sea Lavender Garden Club members plant and maintain 25 pocket gardens scattered throughout Manasquan, while the Shade Tree Commission maintains and protects Manasquan’s trees. In the past, club members have served and continue to serve on the commission as well.
